One of the most vital pieces of home gym equipment for your workouts is the weight bench. The weight bench is not just necessary to do bench press on but it also allows you to do an almost endless amount of other important exercises. These include the shoulder press, hip thrusts, dumbbell bench press, dumbbell rows, dips and many many other exercises. A good weight bench is not optional for a home gym…it is vital!
A good weight bench will not cost you a fortune and it will allow you to work almost every body part (as long as you have dumbbells to go with it of course). Most good bench presses are easily portable and can be stored away when not in use. There are several different types of bench press at different price points so it is important to get the right one for your needs.
Folding Weight Bench:
The folding weight bench although more light weight than other benches is a great home option as it can be easily stored away when not in use. Most folding weight benches are flat only so can not be adjusted but they still allow you to do a huge range of exercises like the dumbbell bench press, dips, step ups, skull crushes among many others (only limited to your imagination!). This is a great option if you are tight on space or on a limited budget. Bare in mind that these can still take a considerable amount of weight so don’t let the fact that they are so portable put you off.
Flat Weight Bench:
The flat weight bench is one of the most popular models as they are more affordable than the other options. As you may have guessed the flat bench is what it sounds like..a flat bench that can not be adjusted in any way. These are great for flat bench press, dumbbell bench, step ups, skull crushes, ab workouts to name a few of the many workouts. These are affordable pieces of equipment and give you a huge range of exercises to use with a pair of dumbbells.
Adjustable Weight Bench:
If you want to get more out of your weight bench then the adjustable weight bench will give you even more exercises to choose from than the flat bench. The adjustable weight bench gives you the added benefit of doing exercises like incline bench press or dumbbell press, seated shoulder press, seated tricep curls, incline skull crushes and many others. They are a bit more expensive than the flat bench but they do open up more possibilities.
Olympic Weight Bench:
Now we are getting into the more serious stuff when it comes to the weight bench. These are much bigger pieces of equipment when compared to the weight benches above but they again provide more options. These are great if you are looking to do bench press in your home and often they will allow you to change the levels of the weights so you can do decline, flat and incline bench press. Often an olympic weight bench will have other useful attachments for other exercises but that really depends on the model. That said if you are looking to increase your bench press with some heavy weight then this is the option to go for.
